Parish & Ward Church of St. Botolph without Bishopsgate

A FULL HOUSE FOR THE PARISH CAROL SERVICE

At lunchtime today the church was packed for the popular annual Parish Carol Service, with favourite Christmas carols supported by the Choir and Band of Coopers' Company and Coborn School. Our Priest-in-Charge, The Venerable Luke Miller, led the service, and was joined in the chancel by Canon Graham Foulis-Brown, Chaplain to the Coopers' Company - which was also represented by the Master and Clerk and other members.
The ceremonies were tinged with a moment of sadness, though, as we said our farewells to two long-standing friends of St Botolph's: Billy Dove, an indefatigable Common Councillor for Bishopsgate for many years and recently a distinguished Chief Commoner, whose last public engagement as a CC was to walk in the civic procession and read the first lesson at today's service; and Jan Bristow, retiring this term after a long stint in charge of the music at Coopers' School, who agreed to read a lesson in addition to her choral conducting duties. Each received a presentation of flowers from Churchwarden Chris Watkins. They will both be much missed.
The other lessons were taken by PS Luke Harley, representing the City of London Police, and Michele Ashton, the Railway Chaplain for Liverpool Street Station. A collection was taken for St Botolph's Christmas Charities.
Another opportunity to sing favourite carols at St Botolph's comes round next Friday 23rd, when we have our Christmas Eucharist and Blessing of the Crib at 11.00am - this is a lovely service to bring your children and grandchildren to!
